Eruv
An “Eruv” is an urban area defined by a symbolic boundary that extends the private domain of Jewish households into public spaces. This enables observant Jews to engage in public activities during Shabbat and Jewish holidays such as carrying, pushing wheel chairs or strollers, which would otherwise be restricted by Jewish Law. With or without the Eruv, congregants and visitors are welcome to attend services, classes and social programs however they arrive. Everyone is welcome at Island Synagogue.
For a map of the Eruv, please visit Mercer Island Eruv.
